Today the city of Green Bay hosted an event where people could come and sign what will become the top bent of the roller coaster. The weather was perfect and the crowds were steady for four hours as local children and adults signed the tallest structural part of the ride.
Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt was on hand and spent the day talking with kids, posing for pictures, and autographing the Zippin Pippin t-shirts that were for sale. My four kids joined in the fun and my wonderful wife took our picture with the Mayor.
The mayor joined in the fun and added his name to the top bent.
I added my name to the structure along with the address for this blog :-)
Bay Beach had the train running and they were offering free train rides.
My family took a ride on the train, Sophia and I sat in the far back, my daughter Karlie was a few spots further up and was practicing putting her hands up. Hopefully she'll be doing this May 7th 2011 on the Zippin Pippin.
The long range plan is to re-route the train tracks to the side of the park with the Zippin Pippin. The roller coaster plans have a spot set aside where the train can eventually run under the out and back portion of the structure.
On hand at the event was the scale model of the Zippin Pippin. Yes those are my kids again, they can't wait to ride the Pippin next year!
This great picture of the second roller coaster at Bay Beach The Greyhound was sitting near the model, this coaster was in operation from 1929 to 1936. Officials are planning on the Zippin Pippin lasting a bit longer than the Greyhound!
