Construction Update 10/15/10

I'm a little late getting this post written, I did visit the site Friday (10/15) but then was in Madison all weekend for the Badger upset of Ohio State.  Here is the latest at the Green Bay Zippin Pippin Roller Coaster construction site...

To help orient ourselves I was able to find the part of the plan that identified the various construction zones.  Zone 1 consists of the brake run, load/unload area, the lift hill, and the portion of the track heading to the out and back.  Zone 2 consists of turn 2 (an elevated turn after the lift hill), the first drop, turn 1, and turn 3.  Click on the picture to see it in full resolution.

The main part of the structure that has been added since last week is the first uphill after the first drop right before turn 3 (another elevated turn).  The progress looks like this...

Note the large hole in the structure, this area is so the cars can be moved in and out of the transfer area.  Several of the bents that will be used for the structure of turn 3 are assembled and laying near the footings for this turn.

There is also some new structure going up in the transfer area.  If you look closely near the lower center of this picture you can see how the structure is dropping, this is the area right after the loading/unloading are heading into turn #1.  This very small first hill will give the train enough momentum to get through turn #1 and into the chain lift on the lift hill.

The footings for turn #2 were started this week, turn #2 is after the lift hill and just before the first drop.

The footings shown in this picture will support two sections of track, the lift hill and the straightaway after turn 3 heading to the out and back portion of the roller coaster.

Some work has also started in zone 3, there is some serious excavating going on at the far end of the out and back portion of the roller coaster track.

The standing structure looks like this from zone 3, this is looking east.

That wraps up this weeks visit, I'm hoping by next week we start to see some of the structure for turns 1 and 3 taking shape.
